Cordella Lyon is a Registered Nurse and Program Coordinator of Preventative Screening at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas. During her term as chairperson of the Tri-County Center for Elimination of Disproportionalities and Disparities, Ms. Lyon has initiated a meaningful change in a cross-system approach to client and patient care. She is a Regional Co-Chair for the Texas HIV Syndicate and a member of the Steering Committee to End the HIV Epidemic in Texas. She also enjoys membership in the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (Gulf Coast Chapter), The Golden Triangle Emergency Nurses Association, and has been a member of the YC Past Students Alumni Association (New York Chapter) for the past 3 years.
One of Ms. Lyon’s greatest achievements was using private-public partnerships between health departments, hospitals, and pharmacies to make post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) available to first responders who suffer occupational exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens. This initiative has decreased the cost of HIV care, decreased HIV stigma, and increased access to care in Southeast Texas.
